Modern Relics

Shaped by myth, legend and fairytales.

Meet the Maker

My practice explores the meeting point between fantasy and material reality - transforming stories, symbols, and textures from historical and imagined worlds into wearable forms.

Originally from the UK, I grew up as a child with a vivid imagination and a love for history. Moving to NZ in my teen years, I continued to nurture these interests, while being immersed in and surrounded by the rough and rugged textural landscape of Aotearoa.

These formative experiences inform my work today, with each piece beginning as a sculpted fragment of narrative, handcarved in wax and cast into precious metal. I’m drawn to jewellery as a vessel for myth and meaning; for creating small-scale relics that bridge the distance between the ancient and the contemporary.

Working with recycled silver and gold, and ethically sourced or lab-grown gemstones, I aim to create objects that honour both craft and conscience. My process is deliberately tactile and imperfect, finding beauty in the imperfect nature of handmade treasures.

About Heavy Metals

Heavy Metals Jewellery creates jewellery inspired by myth, legend and fantasy realms.

Each design is conceived as a modern relic - a contemporary heirloom that bridges the worlds of ancient craftsmanship and modern storytelling.

Rooted in the aesthetics of the medieval and the mythic, our work reimagines the idea of the talisman for the present day: jewellery that marks moments of love, change, and renewal.

Based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Aotearoa / Wellington, New Zealand; right at the heart of Middle Earth.

After discovering the art of lost wax casting in art school, this ancient technique is used in the majority of the work Jennie produces. This method allows for the creation of modern relics and contemporary heirlooms forged through ancient methods of craftsmanship.

The studio uses recycled precious metals and ethically sourced stones and believes in crafting by hand to preserve a sense of intimacy and human imperfection within each piece.

We believe in creating adornments that endure, not only in material form, but through meaning carried forth into future generations.
